Roker twitter apology accepted,  The Al Roker Speidi brouhaha is the second celebrity feud to make headlines recently. It was, of course, preceded by the Letterman Palin joke controversy. David Letterman told two jokes about the Palin family that triggered an intense uproar. One was the Sarah Palin Top 10 "slut" joke and the other was the Bristol Palin/A-Rod "knocked up" joke.

Gaga wants White House meeting on bullying

Gaga wants White House meeting on bullying
Gaga wants White House meeting on bullying, Lady Gaga wants to meet with President Barack Obama about her concerns over bullying. Gaga expressed sadness over Twitter Wednesday about the suicide death of a 14-year-old New York boy who had complained in an online video about being bullied over his sexuality. lady gaga obama, make a law for jamey, The pop singer tweeted to her 13.7 million followers: "I am meeting with our President. I will not stop fighting. This must end."

A Democratic official said Gaga plans to attend an Obama fundraiser next week on the West Coast but no private meeting has been scheduled. The official spoke on condition of anonymity and was not authorized to speak publicly about the fundraiser.

In videos, Jamey Rodemeyer described being taunted in his school hallways and receiving hateful messages online before his suicide death Sunday outside his home in Williamsville, N.Y. The video was part of the "It Gets Better Project," which is meant to give hope to gay teens.

In his blog, Rodemeyer referred to himself as gay and made frequent references to suicide and to his idol,Lady Gaga, who often sings about acceptance of gays and lesbians.

Rodemeyer's parents said the boy had been bullied for years but appeared to be doing better since beginning high school a few weeks ago.

Police are investigating whether criminal charges should be filed in the case. New York state doesn't have an anti-bullying law but authorities have said bullies could be charged with harassment or aggravated harassment.

The White House held a conference on bullying prevention in March to discuss bullying, estimating that it affects 13 million students, or about a third of those attending school. Obama said then he hoped to "dispel the myth that bullying is just a harmless rite of passage or an inevitable part of growing up. It's not."

Burt Reynolds $5 million cannonball run

Burt Reynolds $5 million cannonball run
Burt Reynolds $5 million cannonball run, Burton Leon Reynolds Junior was born in the town of Waycross, Georgia in 1936. His father, Burton Reynolds, was a police officer, and was of Irish-Cherokee Indian descent, while his mother, Fern, was of Italian-American descent. The Reynolds family moved around quite a bit during Burt’s childhood and eventually settled in Florida, where he spent the remainder of his formative years.
As a youth, Reynolds attended Palm Beach High School. He was a keen student and graduated from high school in 1954. He was a good high school student, and an outstanding athlete; he particularly excelled at football, and won a football scholarship to Florida State University. He went on to become an All Star Southern Conference halfback, and could well have taken up a career as a professional sportsman.

Indeed, he had already attracted the attention of the Baltimore Colts, who’d reserved a place for him in their training programme, when the double blow of a serious car accident and knee injury sadly put paid to his sporting hopes. Reynolds studied drama at high school, and won a scholarship to a summer school acting programme in Hyde Park, New York. At this stage, he didn’t have any serious idea of becoming an actor - but whilst in New York, he’d had the good fortune to meet Joanne Woodward, who suggested that he should get an agent. After college, he returned to New York, to pursue his newfound acting ambitions in earnest.

When he was starting out in New York, Reynolds followed the traditional aspiring actor’s path of working in restaurants and bars in order to earn a living, whilst he scored the occasional small TV or theatre role. Eventually, things began to improve when he was spotted in a New York production of 'Mister Roberts', and was offered a TV contract. He began to appear on TV quite regularly, mostly in Western series such as 'Gun Smoke' (1955) and 'Riverboat' (1959). Eventually, he landed his first feature role in a movie called 'Angel Baby', in 1961.

It wasn’t until the 1970s that Burt Reynolds really became a big-time star, when he played the role of Lewis Medlock in the backwoods horror film, 'Deliverance' in 1972. The film tells the story of a trip up country that goes terribly, terribly wrong; interestingly, Reynolds only got the part because several other actors, including Marlon Brando and Henry Fonda, had turned it down after they’d been briefed on the risks of the Chatooga River, where much of the movie was filmed!

Deliverance was a huge box-office hit, and firmly established Reynolds as a leading Hollywood actor. From then on, he was offered bigger and better film roles, and the fees he was able to command began to soar. Among the hit movies he made during the 1970s were the Woody Allen comedy, 'Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Sex, But Were Afraid To Ask' (1972) and 'Shamus' (1973), where he played a down-to-earth private investigator. Reynolds began to establish something of a reputation for playing “southern boys” who outwit the police, becoming highly popular for films such as 'White Lightning' (1973) and 'The Longest Yard' (1974).

Reynolds’ most successful film ever was 'Smokey and the Bandit', which was made in 1977. This film was directed by Hal Needham, and co-starred Sally Field, Reynolds’ longtime girlfriend, and actor Jerry Reed. The movie netted over $100 million at the box office, and was swiftly followed up by two sequels, made in 1980 and 1983 respectively. Smokey And The Bandit marked the beginning of Burt Reynolds’ most successful period of film-making. During the late 1970s and early 1980s, Reynolds was reported to be highest paid actor in Hollywood for five years running, a record which has to this day only been surpassed by Tom Cruise.

The early 1980s were marked by a string of hit movies for Burt Reynolds, including 'Sharky’s Machine' (1981), 'The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas' (1982), where he co-starred with Dolly Parton, followed by 'City Heat' in 1984, co-starring Clint Eastwood, and 'Cannonball Run' (1981), for which his salary cheque was a staggering $5 million! From this point onwards, however, Reynolds' popularity began to wane, and the films that he was now making, such as 'Stick and Stroker Ace', failed to achieve the box office success that he’d achieved in the 1970s with such movies as Deliverance and Smokey And The Bandit. At one point, he attempted to make a comeback with a film called 'Heat' (1986), directed by the renowned Robert Altman. But sadly, Altman fell out with the movie’s producer, Eliott Kastner, left the project, and the film fared poorly at the box office.

Undaunted, Reynolds turned his attention back to the small screen, and appeared in two very popular TV shows in the late 1980s, namely 'B L Stryker' and 'Evening Shade' (1990), which earned him a highly-coveted Emmy award. Reynolds kept on working and by 1996, his performances once again attracted favourable reviews from the critics. He was highly acclaimed for his portrayal of a drunken and corrupt politician in 'Striptease' (1996), which was swiftly followed by his appearance as porn movie director in 'Boogie Nights' (1997). Although Reynolds didn’t like the finished film, it earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

Once again he was back in the public spotlight and discovered that he’d acquired a whole new circle of movie fans, just like his glory days in the 1970s when he’d been something of a sex symbol. His films continued to be popular throughout the late 1990s and after 2000. His most popular recent movies include 'Mystery Alaska' (1999), 'Pups' (1999), 'Driven' (2001) and 'Time of The Wolff' (2002).

One of more unusual aspects of Burt Reynolds’ film career is the fact that he is almost as famous for the roles that he has either lost or turned down during the course of his 40-odd years as an actor. Back in 1968, he auditioned for a role in Roman Polanski’s horror film, 'Rosemary’s Baby', but lost the part to John Cassavetes. During the 1970s, he was reportedly Milos Forman’s first choice for the lead role in 'One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest', which was made in 1975, but the film’s production company, United Artists, believed that Reynolds’ popularity might cause the film to be taken less seriously. The role was eventually given to Jack Nicholson, who went on to win an Oscar for Best Actor for the film. Next, he turned down the role of Han Solo in 'Star Wars' in 1977. During the 1970s, he also turned down the part of James Bond on more than one occasion. He is on record as saying to producer Cubby Broccoli: “An American can’t play James Bond, it just can’t be done!”

Reynolds lost out to Jack Nicholson once again in 1983 when he turned down the part of Garrett Breedlove, the amorous astronaut in James L. Brook’s movie, 'Terms of Endearment'. Reynolds was the director’s first choice for the role but the part went to Jack Nicholson again, who won a second Oscar for his performance in the movie, this time for Best Supporting Actor. Reynolds is on record as saying that he regards this refusal as one of the most terrible mistakes he has ever made in his career. In 1988, he turned down the role of John McClane in 'Die Hard', which cleared the way for Bruce Willis, who has since achieved major critical success with the role.

Reynolds' personal life has suffered as many ups and down as his career. He was famously involved with actress Dinah Shore for several years, who was 20 years his senior. He was then married to actress Judy Carne from 1963 until 1965, before it ended in a very bitter and acrimonious divorce. A long-term relationship with fellow actress Sally Field followed and the couple were involved for many years but eventually broke up because Field kept refusing his proposals of marriage. He subsequently married Loni Anderson in 1988, and the couple adopted a son called Quinton. After the marriage floundered in 1993, Reynolds was quoted as saying, “I’m paying the third highest alimony in the world, and the only two people ahead of me are sheikhs!” In 1998, he became engaged to former waitress Pam Seals.

If there’s one thing that Burt Reynolds 40-year career has categorically proved, it’s that persistence and staying power are every bit as important as natural skill and acting talent! So there’s surely little doubt that we’ll be enjoying Reynolds’ performances for many years to come…

Halle Berry breaks foot in Spain

Halle Berry breaks foot in Spain
Halle Berry breaks foot in Spain, The actress was at the house where she is staying while making the sci-fi movie when she misstepped, causing her njury.Sources told website TMZ she was taken to hospital where he foot was put in a cast. She later left the medical facility in a wheelchair. The film's directors, Tom Tykwer, Andy Wachowski and Lana Wachowski, are overcoming the immediate problem of shooting Halle's scenes - in which she plays one of few remaining survivors in a post apocalyptic world - by filming her from the waist up, using a stunt double, or simply shooting other scenes in which she is not required.

Speaking of the film, Tom has promised it will be of an epic proportion, saying: ''The big-scale adult movie is a dying species. Where are the ''2001s'' and the ''Lawrence of Arabias''?''

''You go to all these studios, and you see their framed photographs, the films they're so proud of, and you wonder: 'Where are the pictures this year that they want blown up with a nice expensive frame around it?'''

Other A-list stars to appear in the big budget adaptation of the novel by David Mitchell include Tom Hanks, Hugh Grant, Jim Sturgess and Hugo Weaving.

Halle is not the only star to have been hurt in an accident in recent weeks. ''True Blood'' actress Evan Rachel Wood lost a tooth after being hit in the face by an erratic dancer at a Parisian nightclub, where she was celebrating her 24th birthday earlier this month.

Bill Clinton turned down ‘DWTS’?

Bill Clinton turned down ‘DWTS’? Bill Clinton Turned Down ‘Dancing with the Stars’ but Thinks It’s a ‘Hoot’. “It never hurts to ask” is apparently a motto of the people behind “Dancing with the Stars.”

How else can you explain the show’s casting crew actually asking a former president of the United States to compete on the show?!

That’s what Bill Clinton reveals on tomorrow’s “Rachael Ray,” according to USA Today, where the TV chef welcomes the former president in her kitchen as her new season kicks off this week.

“This is interesting actually,” Clinton says when the “Dancing” subject comes up. “They contacted me once about it.”

“And I told them I didn’t have the time to train for it,” he goes on to say. “You know you actually go out there and you train, you really work at it. So I had to pass. But I think it’s a hoot. And I have a 92-year-old mother-in-law who watches it religiously and she knows much more about popular culture than Hillary and I do. She even knows more than her granddaughter, Chelsea, knows about popular culture. She thinks I would be really cool if I made it, but I had to pass.”

When Ray asks what dance he thinks he would have been good at it, Clinton says, “It’s amazing you said that because just last night, Hillary said to me ‘You know, when I’m not Secretary of State anymore, we should go take dancing lessons.’ So we’ll start with the tango.”

Robert Evans 7 marriages

Robert Evans 7 marriages, In the 1970s Bob Evans was the movie producer responsible for some of the biggest box office successes of the era, including Rosemary's Baby (1968, directed by Roman Polanski), Love Story (1970), The Godfather (1972, directed by Francis Ford Coppola) and Chinatown (1974, starring Jack Nicholson). Evans was a women's sportswear executive when he was "discovered" by actress Norma Shearer and chosen to play the role of Irving Thalberg in the Lon Chaney biopic Man of a Thousand Faces (1957). After a few appearances on screen, Evans quit the garment industry and became a movie producer, first at 20th Century Fox, then at Paramount.

In the late '60s he was responsible for a string of successes, including Barefoot in the Park (1967, starring Robert Redford) The Odd Couple (1968, with Jack Lemmon) and Goodbye Columbus (1969). A smooth swinger and raconteur, Evans is a living character as well as a successful movie producer: he married five times, he was arrested for cocaine possession in the '70s, he was involved as a material witness in a Hollywood murder in the '80s and somehow he bounced back in the '90s. He has continued to produce movies, including Sliver (1993, starring Sharon Stone), The Saint (1997) and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (2003, with Kate Hudson), but these days Evans is more famous for being himself, thanks to the success of an autobiographical book and a documentary, The Kid Stays in the Picture (2003), and to a 2003 animated TV series based loosely on his life, Kid Notorious.

A 1970s player, a 1980s flameout, and a 1990s survivor, studio executive-turned-producer Robert Evans' flamboyant life is as checkered as his mercurial career. Born Robert Shapera in New York City, Evans was a child actor, but he gave it up and went into the clothing business with his brother at age 21. Despite their success, Evans returned to acting when Norma Shearer chose him to play Irving Thalberg in the Lon Chaney biopic Man of a Thousand Faces (1957). Although Evans had the movie-star looks, he lacked the talent to move beyond a smattering of small roles, including in The Sun Also Rises (1957). Still entranced by the movie business, however, Evans left the clothing company and went to work at 20th Century-Fox.

Despite his relative lack of experience, Evans was made the head of production at floundering Paramount in 1966. Under his Thalberg-esque watch, the rejuvenated studio turned out some of the most important hits of the late 1960s and early '70s, including Rosemary's Baby (1968), Love Story (1970), and The Godfather (1972). As skillful at drawing attention to himself, Evans held court at his estate with wife Ali MacGraw, and publicly clashed with Francis Ford Coppola over who was responsible for The Godfather's artistry. Though Evans was humiliated when MacGraw dumped him for Steve McQueen after The Getaway (1972), he still rode high professionally, striking a deal with Paramount that allowed him to produce as well as maintain his executive title. Setting the bar perhaps too high, Evans' first production was the Roman Polanski-directed, Robert Towne-scripted, revisionist noir Chinatown (1974), one of the outstanding works of the 1970s. Though Chinatown brought Paramount Oscar nominations and some box office (though no Best Picture statuette), Evans' dual role became problematic. He turned solely to producing, scoring two more hits with the thrillers Marathon Man (1976) and Black Sunday (1977). Evans also helped resurrect John Travolta's career (for the first time) with the moderately successful, trend-setting production Urban Cowboy (1980).

Evans' downfall began when he was busted for cocaine possession during the production of Popeye (1980), a box-office failure. Evans' real Waterloo, however, was The Cotton Club (1984). Meant to be Evans' directorial debut, Evans called in Coppola early on to save the already troubled production. Instead, the shoot spiraled out of control as the script was endlessly rewritten, the budget doubled, and Evans and Coppola fought publicly, not to mention the fact that Evans was also implicated in the murder of a funding source. Evans beat the rap, but he couldn't beat the bad publicity or The Cotton Club's mediocre performance. After he was fired in 1985 from his co-starring role in the Chinatown sequel The Two Jakes, Evans seemed to be finished. Evans re-emerged in 1990 when The Two Jakes was finally made, but it failed to even approach the original's impact. Still, Evans hung on throughout the 1990s, producing such glossy formula films as Sliver (1993), The Saint (1997), and The Out-of-Towners (1999), and publishing his juicy autobiography, The Kid Stays in the Picture, in 1994. Evans' personal life also attracted attention with his ultra-brief marriage to actress Catherine Oxenberg in 1998. Along with MacGraw and Oxenberg, Evans' five wives have included former Miss America Phyllis George. As always the resilient survivor, Evans was in the spotlight again in 2002 with the release of the documentary film version of The Kid Stays in the Picture (2002). Produced with Evans' full support, and narrated by Evans in his famously gravelly, Noo Yawk-inflected tones, The Kid Stays in the Picture neatly combined still photographs, clips from Evans' most notable films, and an evocative visual tour of his beloved house to paint a dynamic, if not always fully revelatory, portrait of Evans' eventful life in the movies. Well received on the film festival circuit, The Kid Stays in the Picture opened to rave reviews in July 2002 and became an art house success. ~ Lucia Bozzola, Rovi

Joan Collins married five times

Joan Collins married five times, Hollywood star Joan Collins is to marry her boyfriend Percy Gibson, her spokesman has announced. The 68-year-old actress and author will wed 36-year-old theatre company manager Percy Gibson in London in February.

Peruvian-born Gibson proposed to the actress in May while the couple were in New York and will be her fifth husband.

They met when Collins was starring in the play Love Letters, which was touring the US.

But love did not blossom until Gibson helped her edit her latest novel, Star Quality.

Collins described falling in love with Gibson as "like being struck by a thunderbolt".

'Very happy'

Spokesman Stella Wilson said: "They are to marry in London in February but they have not yet finalised a venue or an exact date.

"They are both very happy and are very in love with each other."

Collins recently said Mr Gibson was "more in tune with me than anybody I've ever met".

"I don't know how many years I have left, but I've always believed in living for the moment," she said when she made the relationship public.

"I don't have an agenda for what life's going to be like in ten years' time.

"Percy is such a special human being. I feel more myself with Percy Gibson than I ever have with anyone."

Son's bemusement

Gibson is the same age as Collins' son, artist Sacha Newley.

Mr Newley recently said Mr Gibson is "polite, gracious and well-mannered" - but that he found the fact that they are the same age "kinda weird".

"I've always prepared for the extraordinary, and she never disappoints," he said.

Collins was previously with antique dealer Robin Hurlstone, but they never married despite being together for 13 years.

She first got married in 1952, to Maxwell Reed, but they divorced five years later.

In 1963, she wed actor, singer and composer Tony Newley, with whom she had daughter Tara and son Sacha. That marriage lasted eight years.

Music and film producer Ron Kass was next in 1972, and they had daughter Katy, before divorcing in 1983 after he became a drug addict.

She then went on to marry Swedish pop singer Peter Holm in 1985 - but they divorced the following year after he sold pictures of their wedding.

She has also had high-profile relationships with actor Warren Beatty and property developer Bill Wiggins.

London stage

Her most famous acting role was that of Alexis Carrington in soap opera Dynasty in the 1980s.

She also starred in movies The Big Sleep, The Bravados, Land of the Pharaohs and The Virgin Queen.

She has most recently been seen playing a 1950s actress in the London stage production Over the Moon.

Star Quality is due to be released at the end of March.

Tony Curtis married six times

Tony Curtis married six times, one of the last great stars of Hollywood's golden age, died yesterday aged 85. The death was confirmed by a representative of his actor daughter Jamie Lee Curtis, although further details have yet to emerge. Curtis's health had been failing for a number of years and he was admitted to hospital in July after suffering an asthma attack.

Appearing on stage at the Guardian BFI Southbank interview in 2008, Curtis was asked by an audience member what he would like to have written on his gravestone. "Nobody's perfect," he quipped, quoting the final line of his best-loved comedy, Some Like it Hot.

He was born humble Bernard Schwartz, to Hungarian immigrant parents in the Bronx and grew up dreaming of stardom and idolising the casual, easy grace of Cary Grant. Marketed as prime 1950s beefcake by Hollywood, he brought a pulchritudinous dash to a rash of substandard studio pictures before winning plaudits for his role as a venal press agent in the 1957 drama The Sweet Smell of Success. The following year he gained his only Oscar nomination for his turn opposite Sidney Poitier in the tense racial parable The Defiant Ones.

His other notable films include The Vikings, Stanley Kubrick's Spartacus and The Boston Strangler. Curtis always insisted that the latter film, in which he played serial killer Albert DeSalvo was the finest performance of his career. In later years he turned to painting, with some success, and cited Van Gogh, Picasso and Magritte as his main inspirations.

His most enduring screen role, however, remains his role as a runaway jazz musician, alongside Jack Lemmon and Marilyn Monroe, in Billy Wilder's 1959 classic Some Like it Hot. The film even provided Curtis with the chance to channel the spirit of his old idol Cary Grant - mimicking the actor's distinctive transatlantic twang to impersonate a stuffy oil millionaire. "Nobody talks like that!" retorted the disgusted Jack Lemmon.

The role was a gamble for Curtis, who spends the bulk of the film in drag, but it paid off brilliantly. "I was very nervous about getting dressed up as a girl," he would later confess. "Jack [Lemmon] had no problem with it .... We realised it was the perfect symmetry for the two of us. Let him be the flaunty one, let me be the more quiet one, which fit out characters perfectly."

Curtis married six times and appeared to revel in his reputation as a carouser. "I wouldn't be caught dead marrying a woman old enough to be my wife," he once remarked.

Frank Sinatra once claimed that Curtis was his favourite Hollywood actor, "because he beat the odds". In old age, the actor looked back delightedly on a career that had carried him from the impoverished neighbourhoods of New York to a high-life as a Hollywood superstar. "I've made 122 movies and I daresay there's a picture of mine showing somewhere in the world every day of the week," he stated proudly, providing an epitaph all of his own.

Makeup-free Lady Gaga on Harper's cover. She’s usually shroud under a cloth of three-inch-thick costume makeup and disguised as some variation of cookie, cold cut, or cupcake. So imagine how shocked we were to find Lady Gaga showing off her true “Poker Face” by posing basically barefaced on the cover of the new issue of Harper’s Bazaar. Gaga is the au naturel cover girl for the mag’s October issue, wearing absolutely no make-up whatsoever.Don’t be alarmed, Little Monsters. The 25-year-old assures us that even when her skin is wiped clean, she’s still crazy as a bat.  “Whether I’m wearing lots of makeup or no makeup, I’m always the same person inside,” the much-lauded multi-Grammy winner tells the mag. “I think what’s been lovely about my relationship with the public is that they expect something unexpected from me…I’m very free-spirited. Even when I was a kid, I used to run around naked with the babysitter, driving her crazy.

Gaga also spoke to the mag about her fitness regime and it sounds like Mother Monster is a bit of a workout fiend.

“I do yoga, I do Bikram and I run, and I eat really healthy. You know, my work sort of feeds me. I keep in shape by working hard.”

These days, Gaga’s taken up an unlikely means of staying in shape: Surfing. The outre pop songstress rode her first wave during a two-day vacation to Mexico in August: “I fell off a lot in the beginning, but one of the surfers said to me, ‘Now that you can stand up, just look into the future and enjoy the ride.’ I thought that was an interesting metaphor about life.”

Miss America Susan Akin Challenges

Miss America Susan Akin Challenges
Miss America Susan Akin Challenges. Signal Mountain's Susan Akin knows this better than most. She was crowned Miss America 1986 while a college student at the University of Mississippi. In those days, the crown meant something -- a dream appointment that promised a life of glamour and a difference-making platform.
For many years she had just that, traveling around the world with renowned entertainer Bob Hope, performing before thousands and delivering hopeful messages to young women. But one thing she learned along the way is that life as an adult isn't always as dreamy as being the one chosen at that magical moment when the announcer proclaims, "There she is ... "

When I was in college with Susan in the 1980s, our paths occasionally crossed. But though we had mutual friends, she was busy in one direction, while I was busy in another.

When I learned Ms. Akin lives in the Chattanooga area, I reached out to say hello. A former Miss America in our midst seemed like a story. Also, shared common ground seemed like a worthy connection. What I found, though, has both surprised and delighted me.

I knew Ms. Akin was a beautiful, spiritual and talented woman. I also knew how hard she had worked to attain her dream, the Miss America crown. She had appeared in more than 100 pageants, winning 13 before finally winning the big one. What I did not know, however, is that Miss America struggles with life as we all do, navigating triumph and difficulties.

In the years since she was crowned Miss America, Ms. Akin has experienced victories but also suffered challenges, including divorce, while facing the ever-changing learning curve to try and turn life's difficult lessons learned into a winning formula for the future. For most of us, that's life.

But one also can imagine that Miss America has an extra dose of difficulty thrown on for good measure, the ever-present challenge of living up to the crown. People have expectations -- the look, the stride and the smile. Self-expectations, even, go well beyond that, as Ms. Akin readily attests.

"I'm sorry," she said the day we reconnected. "I've been busy ... "

"Don't apologize," I told her. "You look like Miss America."
