Steve Jobs has more money than the United States treasury

Steve Jobs has more money than the United States treasury
Steve Jobs has more money than the United States treasury. Maybe the cash-strapped U.S. government should start selling iPads. According to the latest statement from the U.S. Treasury, the government had an operating cash balance Wednesday of $73.8 billion. That's still a lot of money, but it's less than what Steve Jobs has lying around.Tech juggernaut Apple had a whopping $76.2 billion in cash and marketable securities at the end of June, according to its last earnings report. Unlike the U.S. government, which is scrambling to avoid defaulting on its debt, Apple takes in more money than it spends. This symbolic feat -- the world's most highly valued tech company surpassing the fiscal strength of the world's most powerful nation -- is just the latest pinnacle for Apple, which has been on an unprecedented roll.

Its Macs, iPhones and iPads remain hot sellers, its stock has surged past $400 a share and Apple just became the world's largest smartphone vendor by volume.

There's been a lot of speculation about what Apple might buy with its piles of cash -- Facebook and Sony being two of the more high-profile examples -- but the company doesn't seem to be in any hurry to make a move.

"We don't let the cash burn a hole in the pocket or make stupid acquisitions," CEO Jobs said last fall. "We'd like to continue to keep our powder dry because we think there are one or more strategic opportunities in the future."

Offering Uncle Sam a short-term loan is probably not one of them.

Octomom Drugged

Octomom Drugged
Octomom Drugged. Octomom Nadya Suleman says she was drugged when she consented to being implanted with 12 embryos. Nadya Suleman told Dr. Drew Pinsky that she was so drugged up when she signed a consent form her fertilization doctor out in front of her that she couldn't even read it.
Octomom claims Dr. Michael Kamavra administered "a cocktail of drugs" including Valium before having her sign the consent form.

"He wrote something, he gave it to me to sign," Suleman said. "I signed it, and I didn't read it."

Dr. Kamavra has since lost his medical license.

Suleman says she also can't stand the character she has become in the media. "I have the spotlight, I know it's my responsibility (for my kids) to brush it away and get rid of the Octomom character," she said.

Even though she admitted that having multiple children was a mistake, she says there is no other place she would rather be than with them.

"I feel safest at home with my kids," she said. "And I want to be only there, that's my favorite time at night, in my pajamas playing Twister."

Hairstyles Always in Style

Hairstyles Always in Style
Hairstyles always in style. Hairstyles are one of the best ways of expressing your personality and defining your look. All week long, both ladies and gents will get tips and updates about how best to stay coiffed. Starting off, here are the 10 looks for women that are always au courant, on matter the age or decade:
1. The Pixie
NOW: Mess it up a bit. With spiky asymmetrical pieces on top (a la Halle Berry), the new pixie is more forgiving than the flat, boy-cut versions of the past, says Mancuso.
THEN: Twiggy’s chic runway style in 1967.
INSIDER TIP: This style works best with a small face.
 2. The Flip
NOW: “Don’t take the flip too seriously,” says N.Y.C. stylist Kevin Mancuso. “Instead of the ends flying out like Mary Tyler Moore’s they should barely hint at an upturn.”
THEN: Mary Tyler Moore’s feathered flip, 1970s.
INSIDER TIP: Take a cue from Michelle Obama’s style: adding in layers and an undefined part can soften the formerly structured style.
 3. The Bob
NOW: “Keep locks longer, almost to the shoulders, so they’re choppy in the back and even and angled in front,” suggests L.A. stylist Mark Townsend, who recently cut Ashley Olsen’s hair.
THEN: Molly Ringwald’s short style in 1986.
INSIDER TIP For an elegant effect, flat iron hair starting a few inches from the scalp.
 4. The Ponytail
NOW Ditch the Pebbles Flintstone height. “These days, ponytails are low and streamlined,” says Townsend, who recommends smoothing hair before securing it a few inches above the nape of the neck, like Debra Messing’s.
THEN Pebbles Flintstone’s spunky ponytail, 1960.
INSIDER TIP: Add polish to the sleek style, wrap hair around the elastic.
 5. Waves
NOW: Waves are smoother like Sienna Miller’s, which means trading in your beach spray for a shine pomade. “The effect now is glossy soft, and a bit more refined than the messy waves we’ve been seeing in recent years,” says L.A. hairstylist Adir Abergel.
THEN: Farrah Fawcett’s signature style in 1976.
INSIDER TIP: For a relaxed wave the curl should start below the ear-line.
 6. The Shag
NOW: Play up the shag’s rock and roll vibe with choppy layers like Taylor Momsen’s, but “keep them on the straight side,” suggests Abergel. “You don’t want too much body.”
THEN: Jennifer Aniston’s famous style from her days on Friends in 1995.
INSIDER TIP: Try not to overstyle it, adds Mancuso: “A shag is best when there’s a lived-in, natural feel to it.”
 7. The Afro
NOW: Stars like Monique Coleman show that it’s time to live large. “Big Afros are strong and sexy,” says N.Y.C. stylist Ted Gibson. “The shape is somewhat abstract with uneven edges, and it’s pulled apart a little bit,” adds Mancuso.
THEN: Whitney Houston’s short and curly style in 1986.
INSIDER TIP: Keep styling products to a minimal this style should seem organic.
 8. Curly
NOW: “Keep it loose and touchable—not like the crunchy look of the ’80s,” says Townsend.
THEN: Glenn Close’s blonde curls in 1987.
INSIDER TIP: Spirals like Leighton Meester’s should also start lower on the head (around the ears as opposed to the scalp). This leaves the top of the head smooth, so you avoid the dreaded pouf.
 9. The Updo
NOW: Stick with something simple but polished, like Anne Hathaway’s low bun. The overachieving styles of Hepburn’s time feel too fussy today. “Now it’s gathered at the nape of the neck and twisted into a sleek shape,” says Townsend.
THEN: Audrey Hepburn’s iconic Breakfast at Tiffany’s style in 1961.
INSIDER TIP: Tame hairline frizz with a dab of styling paste.
 10. Long & Straight
NOW: With volume at the roots and long, face-framing layers like Fergie’s, the latest version has more movement (and less weight) than in the super-straight ’70s, says Townsend: “I bend the ends of the hair as I iron it so you can see the layers more.”
THEN: Maureen Mccormick’s Brady Bunch style in 1971.
INSIDER TIP: Bend the ends of the hair as you iron it so you can see the layers more.

Akshat Saxena record

Akshat Saxena record
Akshat Saxena record. A baby in India was born with 34 fingers & toes! That’s right, Akshat Saxena had seven fingers on each hand and 10 toes on each foot. That easily set the Guinness World Record for the most fingers and toes. However, doctors recently removed the excess appendages and now Akshat Saxena has the normal number of fingers and toes. She, however, does not have thumbs. But doctors plan to make a thumb out of the fingers that were removed.
“I was so happy to see my baby as it was our first child,” his mother Amrita Saxena said during an interview. “But later, when I saw his fingers, I was shocked and surprised.”

Polydactylism is a congenital physical anomaly wherein the individual has more fingers than normal. The extra fingers (or toes) are usually soft tissue hanging on the side of the hand or foot. However, in some cases, the extra tissue has bone inside.

Angela Scoular acid

Angela Scoular acid
Angela Scoular acid. Bond actress Angela Scoular died drinking acid cleaner, A Bond girl actress who had suffered from bowel cancer ended her life by drinking a corrosive cleaning liquid, Westminster Coroner's Court has heard.

Angela Scoular, 65, who starred in On Her Majesty's Secret Service, died in April.

The actress, who lived in Maida Vale, west London, was battling alcoholism and depression and worried about debts.

Coroner Dr Fiona Wilcox recorded a verdict that she killed herself "while the balance of her mind was disturbed".

Ms Scoular's death was not suicide, the coroner ruled.

The court heard Ms Scoular suffered non-survivable 40% burns to her throat, body and dietary tract.

The cause of death was ingestion of a corrosive substance and multiple fractures, said Dr Wilcox.

The coroner heard the actress died two hours after drinking the liquid, containing 91% sulphuric acid, and pouring it over her body.

The inquest was told Ms Scoular had been diagnosed with cancer in 2008 and was given the all clear after treatment and surgery.

But months before her death she began to fear the return of the disease.

Ms Scoular, who had battled alcoholism for years, used to drink between 150 and 210 units of alcohol a week.

Weeks before her death she was arrested for drink-driving while on bail after crashing her car in Wales.

At the time she was on medication for bipolar disorder, the coroner heard.

The actress had married former Carry On star Leslie Phillips in 1982.

The actor, who is 87, was too ill to attend the hearing but said in a statement read to the court that their life together was happy.

"The only exception was her alcoholism," he said.

"But she was a kind, generous person who would help me with my work and I would help with hers."

Ms Scoular tried to kill herself in 1992 when she cut her wrists with a knife.

She was found by Mr Phillips who said he saved her from being sectioned several years ago.

The actress landed the role of Buttercup in the 1966 Bond spoof Casino Royale and was Ruby Bartlett in On Her Majesty's Secret Service in 1969.

She acted in films, television and theatre during her career, including playing the role of Cathy in a BBC adaptation of Wuthering Heights in 1967.

Czech Milovice ice ball

Czech Milovice ice ball
Czech Milovice ice ball. It could be in the running to be the world's largest hailstone, but meteorologists don't believe it's real.
The massive ice ball was bizarrely found in the middle of a forest by a couple out picking mushrooms in Milovice in the Czech Republic.

It was surrounded by mud from the melting ice ball - but there were no tracks - footprints or any other indication of how it had been put there.

Meteorologists rejected suggestions that the huge ball of ice could have fallen from the sky and not broken up - leaving everyone puzzled as to how it got there.

In the meantime the ice ball has attracted UFO watchers and curious locals, and sparked heated debate on how it had ended up in the remote location.

Local farmer Mirek Burzynski said: "It would have weighed tonnes - how it was moved here without a lorry is a mystery. There was certainly nothing like a helicopter here lately - we would have noticed."
