Bill Clinton turned down ‘DWTS’? Bill Clinton Turned Down ‘Dancing with the Stars’ but Thinks It’s a ‘Hoot’. “It never hurts to ask” is apparently a motto of the people behind “Dancing with the Stars.”
How else can you explain the show’s casting crew actually asking a former president of the United States to compete on the show?!
That’s what Bill Clinton reveals on tomorrow’s “Rachael Ray,” according to USA Today, where the TV chef welcomes the former president in her kitchen as her new season kicks off this week.
“This is interesting actually,” Clinton says when the “Dancing” subject comes up. “They contacted me once about it.”
“And I told them I didn’t have the time to train for it,” he goes on to say. “You know you actually go out there and you train, you really work at it. So I had to pass. But I think it’s a hoot. And I have a 92-year-old mother-in-law who watches it religiously and she knows much more about popular culture than Hillary and I do. She even knows more than her granddaughter, Chelsea, knows about popular culture. She thinks I would be really cool if I made it, but I had to pass.”
When Ray asks what dance he thinks he would have been good at it, Clinton says, “It’s amazing you said that because just last night, Hillary said to me ‘You know, when I’m not Secretary of State anymore, we should go take dancing lessons.’ So we’ll start with the tango.”
