woman train survives san francisco
woman train survives san francisco. A woman who fell onto the tracks at the Glen Park BART station appears to be okay after seven cars of a train passed over her.
The train operator hit the emergency brakes after seeing the woman on the tracks as the train pulled into the Glen Park station at about 8:50 a.m. Thursday. Witnesses say the woman survived by lying between the rails as about seven train cars rolled over her.
By the time police and EMS crews arrived, the woman was sitting near the top of some stairs covered with soot and with her head in her hands. It's unclear how she climbed out from under the train.
Officials say the woman did exactly the right thing under the circumstances.
"If the train comes it's most likely you will survive because of the depth of the trackway between running rails," BART spokesman Linton Johnson said. "There's quite a bit of room."
The Glen Park station was closed for about an hour because of the incident. The train operator will undergo standard drug tests and be offered psychological counseling after the incident.
